meet the artist

Hello! I’m happy you’re here.

Thank you for your curiosity and appreciation of the arts.

Before sitting down to write this, I spent some time reflecting on how I got here and what would be meaningful to share with you. I thought about writing a CV, all the who’s and where’s and why’s that make me a “highly qualified art professional”. But I’ll spare you, and myself, from bullet points. Instead, my hope is that you’ll feel inspired and warmed by the end of the page.

Through practicing art I have found a world that is filled with kindhearted, uplifting, and interesting people. We’ll never fully know what it is like to live in someone else’s shoes, but art, in any form, can serve as a bridge. We need to know we really aren’t alone in what we feel. And we aren’t. Ever.

High School was where I started taking art seriously. I entered as an uncertain, overly tall, homeschooler and, by the end, I left with a yearbook that declared “Most Likely To Be A World Renowned Artist” above my picture, which feels a little silly to write here now, but my heart is warmed looking back on how I was seen and supported by my peers, and that’s how I came to understand that beauty, in the form of art, brings joy, sparks curiosity, and inspires connections where it normally isn’t, even in the trenches of those awkward hormonal-roller-coaster years.

Since then, I have lived in California with a collection of artists and friends all shoved in a 2 bedroom apartment to make rent work, Philly, New York state, an accidental 5 month quarantine-turned-art-retreat in Mexico, the arid natural majesty of Southern Utah, while always touching back to my corn fed Midwestern home of Illinois. Throughout this decade of movement I’ve always followed the sparks that have fascinated me artistically, learning to draw with graphite, charcoal, pastels, paint with watercolors, oils, acrylics, gouache, to carve spoons, to throw clay, create jewelry, sew gowns. My hands have a seemingly insatiable desire to learn new skills. I can’t blame them, there’s something deeply satisfying and human about using our hands to create.

But what I see, shining through the hard work, the dedication to live an unconventional life that supports creativity, and all the moments, months, even years of uncertainty when things weren’t “working out” that-that commitment has brought, I see the hundreds of bright, genuine smiles radiating from friends and strangers, of people being being moved and connected through art. And it’s all worth it.

It is one of my greatest pleasures to use these hands and their years of practice to make beautiful art that moves my clients. Whether you’ve commissioned a painting of a cherished memory or you’re a collector of my personal work, you have my deepest gratitude. Thank you for being a part of fulfilled dreams.

May we all live in alignment with love.

Yours,

-Greer
